FLORENCE, S.C. − Simel Boyd scored a game-high 19 points and added five rebounds, three assists and three steals as Francis Marion University defeated Flagler College 83-51 in a Peach Belt Conference East Division men’s basketball game Saturday afternoon at the Smith University Center.

The Patriots won their fourth consecutive game and improved to 15-2 overall and 7-1 in the Peach Belt. The Saints dropped their second consecutive game and fell to 7-8 overall and 2-4 in the conference.

Boyd made 8-of-his-12 attempts from the field to pace Francis Marion. Robert Faulkner came off the bench to score 16 points and grab six rebounds while Kaylan Anderson tacked on 13 points and dished out a game-high six assists. Bryant Julious contributed 10 points and seven rebounds coming off the bench.

Francis Marion out-scored Flagler 54-22 in the paint and forced a season-high 22 Flagler turnovers which were converted into 30 points. The Patriot defense also held the Saints to a season-low 27.6% (16-58) shooting from the field and 51 points – the fewest scored by Flagler since a 63-51 loss at Stetson University (11/19/04).

Kenny Moore (Vero Beach, Fla./Vero Beach HS) recorded his second double-double of the season with 14 points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds for the Saints. Moore also tied his career-high with five blocked shots. D.J. Ferguson (Orlando, Fla./Bishop Moore HS) added eight points, four rebounds and four assists – the fewest assists he has had this season since the second game of the season against West Florida when he only tallied four.

The Saints pulled to within a point (26-25) after a Moore layup with 5:24 left in the first half. The Patriots responded with a 16-5 run to close the half and take a 42-30 lead into the break. That run was part of a 49-14 spread by FMU over 21:12.

Flagler started the second half by missing 22-of-its-first-23 shots from the field and went 13:20 without making a field goal. The Saints shot 17.2% (5-29) in the second half.

Flagler will host Georgia College & State University on Monday (Jan. 25) at 7:30 p.m. at Flagler Gym.
