North Georgia men defeat Flagler, 72-53

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. − Bernard Rimmer scored a game-high 18 points, grabbed seven rebounds, handed out three assists and collected three steals to help lead North Georgia College & State University to a 72-53 win over Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference men’s basketball game Thursday night at Flagler Gym.

North Georgia extended its winning streak to seven games and raised its record to 12-6 overall and 7-1 in the Peach Belt. Flagler lost its fourth game in a row and fell to 7-10 overall and 2-6 in conference play.

Rimmer scored 14-of-his-game-high-18 points in the first half alone. Michael Moynihan tallied 14 points while Kindall Butler scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Saints. Andrew Bennett added 12 points and seven rebounds.

North Georgia out-rebounded Flagler 44-33, including 16 offensive rebounds. NGCSU also out-scored Flagler 34-22 in the paint and 19-3 in points of turnovers. North Georgia only turned the ball over seven times in the entire game and forced 15 Flagler miscues.

John Pietkiewicz (Winter Park, Fla./New Hampton (N.H.) Prep), D.J. Ferguson (Orlando, Fla./Bishop Moore HS) and Adam Dixon (Victoria, Australia/Lilydale HS) each scored 10 points for the Saints. Ferguson dished out six assists.

Flagler was held to 36.7% (18-49) shooting from the field.

North Georgia used a 10-0 run midway through the first half to wipe out an 18-15 Flagler lead. NGCSU never trailed again. They took a 43-33 lead into the half and used a late 8-0 run to take their largest lead of the game, 19 points (70-51), with just under three minutes to go.

Flagler will head north to face Clayton State University on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Morrow, Ga.
