No. 18 Clayton State triumphs over Flagler, 94-60

MORROW, Ga. − The 18th-ranked (USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25) Clayton State University women’s basketball team opened the game on a 12-1 run and never looked back in a 94-60 win over Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference game Saturday afternoon at the Athletics & Fitness Center.

The Lakers, ranked No. 3 in the Southeast Region, won their fourth game in a row and improved to 16-3 overall and 7-2 in the Peach Belt. Flagler suffered its seventh-consecutive loss and fell to 6-12 overall and 1-8 in the conference.

Clayton Sate is known for its pressing, trapping and fast break offense and they showed it with eight-of-its-first-12 points coming via transition baskets, two off of Flagler miscues.

LaDe’Sha Stoudemire, the younger sister of Phoenix Suns star Amare Stoudemire, scored a game-high 18 points, grabbed a team-high seven rebounds, dished out four assists and collected four steals. She was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line. Breanna Fort came off the bench to add 15 points and five rebounds while Latonda Bruce also came off the bench to contribute 12 points and a game-high six assists. Teshymia Tillman chipped in with 10 points.

The Lakers out-scored the Saints 56-20 in the paint and 26-0 in fast break points. Clayton State also shot 58.5% (38-65) for the game, including a 60.6% (20-33) mark in the second half alone.

Chanti Beckett (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield HS) led the Saints with 17 points and seven rebounds. She made 9-of-14 from the free throw line. Jen Mitchell (Fort Myers, Fla./Cypress Lake HS) added 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting from three-point range. Jalisa Foster (St. Petersburg, Fla./Pinellas Park HS) chipped in with 12 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.

Flagler grabbed 19 offensive rebounds and scored 21 second chance points.

Flagler continues on the road with a Peach Belt Conference tilt at Armstrong Atlantic on Feb. 3 at 5:30 p.m.
