WINNIPEG, Manitoba − Former Flagler College pitcher
Austin Donmoyer (Pine Grove, Pa.) signed a professional baseball contract this afternoon (Jan. 6) to play for the Winnipeg Goldeyes of the Northern League.
The 6-foot-1 lefthander was signed by field manager Rick Forney at the BATT Academy in Glen Burnie, Md., after throwing a bull pen session.
Donmoyer posted a 19-18 record with a 3.70 earned run average in four years (2006-09) at Flagler. He struck out 175 batters in 308 2/3 innings pitched. Donmoyer ranks fourth in career appearances with the Saints with 57 and tops the all-time list with 47 starts. His 10 complete games are tied for seventh, innings pitched is fourth and victories are tied for seventh. Donmoyer also ranks seventh in all-time strike outs at Flagler.
Last year, he posted a 5-7 overall record with a staff-best 4.19 ERA. Donmoyer made 15 appearances on the hill with 12 starts and completed two games. His 81 2/3 innings pitched led the staff.
The Goldeyes are an independent team, but play in one the best leagues not affiliated with Major League Baseball. The team has produced several Major Leaguers, including All-Star pitcher George Sherrill.
