No. 7 Lander defeats Flagler, 104-77

Charlsea Owen scored a season-high 25 points, but it wasn't enough as Flagler lost at No. 7 Lander Saturday afternoon.

GREENWOOD, S.C. − A 27-5 run early in the second half propelled No. 7 Lander University (USA TODAY/ESPN Division II Top 25) to a 104-77 win over Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference East Division women’s basketball game Saturday afternoon at Finis Horne Arena.

Lander improves to 22-2 overall and 15-1 in the Peach Belt East Division while Flagler falls to 8-17 overall and 3-13 in the conference.

Brittni Johnson led six Lady Bearcats in double figures with 19 points and also handed out six assists. Jasmine Judge added 16 points and made 5-of-6 from three-point range. Mukia Myrick recorded a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 10 assists. Nardia Robbins came off the bench to contribute 14 points, seven assists and four steals. Tasheba Butler chipped in with 13 points and Shannon McKever tallied 13 points, six rebounds and three blocked shots.

The 104 points scored were the most by the Lady Bearcats this season. Lander shot 51.9% (42-81) from the field and the defense forced 29 Flagler turnovers which were converted into 42 points.

Charlsea Owen (St. Augustine, Fla./Pedro Menendez HS) scored a season and game-high 25 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the floor and 5-of-9 from three-point range. Jalisa Foster (St. Petersburg, Fla./Pinellas Park HS) added 12 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Rachel Brown (Clearwater, Fla./Clearwater HS) came off the bench to tally 10 points and six rebounds.

Flagler out-rebounded Lander 41-35, including 16 offensive rebounds which led to 24 second chance points.

The Saints trailed by just one point (34-33) after a pair of Brown free throws with 4:27 left in the half, but the Lady Bearcats closed the half on a 14-7 run to take a 48-40 lead into the break.

Flagler plays its final home game of the season on Feb. 24 against 19th-ranked Francis Marion University at 5:30 p.m. The Flagler seniors will be honored before the game.
