LAKE WORTH, Fla. − The Palm Beach Atlantic University Sailfish swept a non-conference softball doubleheader from Flagler College Friday evening at John W. Anderson Field. PBA won the opener 5-0 and took the nightcap 4-3 in eight innings.

In the nightcap, PBA jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but Flagler rallied to tie it with a three-run seventh.

Brittney Hatem (Hialeah, Fla./Wallace CC-Dothan) led off the inning by drawing a walk off Sailfish reliever Heather Laird. She took second on a passed ball and advanced to third when Katherine Cabrera (Hialeah, Fla./Miami Dade College) reached first on an error by PBA’s shortstop. Kaley King (Jacksonville, Fla./Trinity Christian Academy) came in to run for Cabrera and stole second base. Hatem scored on an error by the shortstop. Heather Hill (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Indian River State College) drew a walk and both runners advanced a base on Andy Hay’s (Land ‘O Lakes, Fla./Polk CC) sacrifice bunt. Brittany Simmons (Ocala, Fla./Chattanooga State Tech CC) singled to left to score both runners.

After PBA went scoreless in the seventh and Flagler did the same in the top of the eighth, Jana Owen (St. Augustine, Fla./Florida CC-Jacksonville) (0-1) came on in relief for the Saints. She got the leadoff hitter, Stokes, to fly out, but walked the next batter, Chelsea Gravini. She took second on a wild pitch and then third on a single by Candace Horton. Owen uncorked another wild pitch which scored Gravini to end the game.

Horton went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored for PBA. Ashley Jones (5-3) went six and one-third innings and allowed one hit and fanned 10. She was pulled at the end of five innings, but came back in the top of the seventh to get the third out and surrendered a base hit in the eighth.

Kristen Chapman (Jacksonville, Fla./Sandalwood HS) started in the circle and went seven innings, allowed six hits and three runs.

Flagler takes on Lynn University tomorrow (Feb. 27) at noon in Boca Raton.
