Flagler and Lynn split two

BOCA RATON, Fla. − Flagler College and Lynn University split a non-conference softball doubleheader Saturday afternoon at the McCusker Sports Complex. Lynn won the opener 5-2 while Flagler took the second game, 3-2.

Flagler is now 9-9 on the season while Lynn is 11-3.

In the opener, Lynn scored four times in the third inning to rally past Flagler, 5-2. Nikki Pallister singled home the first run to tie the game 2-2, and later Mika Tatar belted a three-run home run to give the Fighthing Knights a 5-2 lead.

Cristie Kaufman (7-0) settled down and retired 10-of-the-next-11 batters after Lynn took the lead. She went the distance and scattered five hits, allowed an earned run and fanned seven

Pallister led the team offensively, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Heather Hill (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Indian River CC) socked a solo home run for the Saints and Kaley King (Jacksonville, Fla./Trinity Christian Academy) hit a double.

Kelly Riddick (Hampton, Fla./Central Florida CC) (6-6) went six innings and surrendered eight hits, four earned runs and fanned three.

In the second game, Flagler erupted for three runs in the top of the sixth inning, all coming on Hill’s home run to left-center, to wipe out a 1-0 deficit.

Lauren Ely (Winter Springs, Fla./Winter Springs HS) led off the frame with a single and two batters later, Brittney Hatem (Hialeah, Fla./Wallace CC-Dothan) singled to left. Hill then stepped to the plate and hit her second home run of the doubleheader.

Kristen Chapman (Jacksonville, Fla./Sandalwood HS) (3-2) pitched six innings and allowed five hits, two runs and struck out three. Riddick went the final inning and retired all three batters she faced to get the save.

Tori Jolley (Keystone Heights, Fla./Keystone Heights HS) singled twice.

Pallister hit a solo home run for Lynn. Callie Darlin (4-3) went the distance and surrendered five hits, three runs and struck out six batters.

Flagler hosts Barry University on Mar. 3 at 4 p.m. at Saints Field.

ST. AUGUSTINE – The Flagler College softball program and fourth-year head coach Kristen Overton announced its 2012 schedule this afternoon. The Saints will play 54 games with 22 of those being played at Flagler Field. Flagler will also face a 20-game Peach Belt Conference slate.
