Lady Pirates down Saints, 64-43

SAVANNAH, Ga. − Armstrong Atlantic State University used a 25-7 run over 11:53 of the second half en route to a 64-43 win over Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference East Division women’s basketball game Wednesday night at Alumni Arena.

Armstrong Atlantic ended a six-game skid and improved to 7-12 overall and 4-7 in the conference. Flagler dropped its eighth in a row and fell to 6-13 overall and 1-9 in league play. AASU swept the two-game season series vs. Flagler having won the first game 72-53 on Jan. 2 at St. Augustine.  

The Lady Pirates erased a one point Saints lead (6-5) with an 18-7 run early in the first half, but Flagler was able to rally back and tie the score at 26 after a Jalisa Foster (St. Petersburg, Fla. (St. Petersburg, Fla./Pinellas Park HS) layup. However, Dartayvia Thomas of AASU countered with a jumper to give the Lady Pirates a 28-26 lead at the half.

In the second half, Foster scored on another layup to bring the Saints to within four (34-30) with 16:21 left. That is when the long Lady Pirate run started, and began with a 10-2 spurt. Arpine Amirkhanyan scored half of those 10 points.

Flagler was held to 22.6% (7-31) shooting from the field in the second half while AASU shot 47.6% (10-21).

Lauren Hall led a balanced Armstrong Atlantic scoring attack with 14 points and sank three treys. Jazmin Walker added another 13 points and was 6-for-7 from the free throw line. Amirkhanyan recorded a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds and also dished out five assists. Portia Jones chipped in with 10 points, five assists and three steals.

Foster finished with a season-high 21 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the field and also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds for Flagler.

Flagler hosts UNC Pembroke on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Flagler Gym.
