Flagler snaps eight-game losing skid and defeat UNCP, 71-68

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. − Jen Mitchell (Fort Myers, Fla./Cypress Lake HS) scored 15-of-her-team-high-19 points in the second half to rally Flagler College past UNC Pembroke 71-68 in a Peach Belt Conference East Division women’s basketball game Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gym.

Flagler snapped an eight-game losing streak and raised its record to 7-13 overall and 2-9 in the conference. UNCP lost its third game in a row and fell to 11-11 overall and 5-8 in league play.

Mitchell’s three-pointer with 16 seconds left to go in the game gave Flagler a 69-68 lead and she added a pair of free throws with nine seconds left to reserve the win.

The game featured two tie scores and 13 lead changes.

Jen Knurek (Oralndo, Fla./Lake Mary HS) added 10 points for the Saints while Chanti Beckett (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield HS) provided nine points and nine rebounds. Beckett score seven-of-her-nine points from the free throw line.

Biana Stanton scored a game-high 20 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the field for the Lady Braves. She also added seven rebounds. DeDe Cotten supplied 12 points while JaToya Kemp chipped in with nine points and nine rebounds.

Flagler hosts USC Aiken on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
