ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The 46th-ranked Flagler College women’s tennis opened the 2010 campaign with a convincing 7-2 win over 28th-ranked Saint Leo University in a non-conference match Sunday afternoon at the Flagler Tennis Center.

Saint Leo fell to 1-2 on the season.

Flagler earned the first two of three possible points in doubles play. Chelsea Taylor (Bradenton, Fla./Bradenton Prep Academy) and Roxane Alt (Montreaux, Switzerland/Lewis & Clark CC) blanked Saint Leo’s Gina Schifano and Christine Clyne 8-0 at No. 2 doubles and the Flagler won by forfeit at No. 3 doubles.

Chelsi de Cuba (Fort Pierce, Fla./Vero Beach HS), Lauren Pfeiffer (Fort Pierce, Fla./Florida Gulf Coast U.) and Jennifer Saviano (Davie, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas HS) all won in straight sets in singles play.

Flagler is idle until Feb. 17 when it hosts Brandeis University at 2:30 p.m. at the Flagler Tennis Center.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. − Flagler College head softball coach Kristen Overton has announced the completion of her recruiting class with the addition of five new players. The newcomers are: Sarah Albino (Adelaide, Australia/Florida State College of Jacksonville), Breanna “Breezy” Collings (Orange City, Fla./Brevard CC), Robyn Draper (Brampton, Ontario/State College of Florida), Donna Munafo (Satellite Beach, Fla./Brevard CC) and Alona Personius (Lake Stevens, Wash./Florida State College-Jacksonville).

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. − The Flagler College athletic department has announced the hiring of five new staff members for the 2010-11 season. Nicole Boone will be an assistant coach for the women’s basketball team, Andrew Garcia will be an assistant coach for the men’s basketball team, Jonathan Holt will be an assistant coach for the baseball team, Meghan Lammerding will be the head coach of the cheerleaders and Steven Samples comes in as an assistant athletic trainer.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. − Flagler College rising senior Chris Bray (Hilliard, Fla./Hilliard HS) and rising junior Joel Dahlenburg (St. Augustine, Fla./Bartram Trail HS) finished in the top 20 of the Jacksonville Area Golf Association’s City amateur which concluded Sunday at the Jacksonville Golf and Country Club.
