SALISBURY, N.C. −
Kaitlyn Edwards (Winter Springs, Fla./Winter Springs HS) finished 42nd at the NCAA Division II South Regional Championships which concluded Tuesday at the Country Club of Salisbury (par 71; 6,094 yards).
She shot a 9-over par 80 to finish the 54-hole tournament at 31-over. To qualify for the NCAA Division II National Championships May 12-15 in Mesa, Ariz., she needed to finish at least third out of all of the individuals who were not advancing with a team.
Edwards shot a 5-over 40 on the front nine parring four holes. She shot a 4-over 40 on the back nine which included a pair of birdies – on holes 15 and 17.
For the tournament, she tallied three birdies and 22 pars.
Edwards, a first-team All-Peach Belt Conference selection, closes out a tremendous career. This year, she averaged a team-best 79.5 strokes per round and had a pair of top five finishes and four top 10’s and six top 20’s. Last year she had three top fives, five top 10’s and seven top 20’s. As a sophomore, she has one top five, two top 10’s and four top 20’s. As a freshman, Edwards has one top five, three top 10’s and four top 20 finishes.
Earning medalist honors was Joanna Coe of Rollins College who was the only player to break par with a 1-under 212. Advancing to the national championships as individuals is: Maria Luz Besio of Newberry; Carley Warrington of Belmont Abbey; and, Isadora Stapff of Barry.
Nova Southeastern University (890) won the regional and will advance to Arizona with Florida Southern College (899), who finished second, and Rollins College (905), who finished third.
