Pressentin and Lamb shine at Florida Open

PALM HARBOR, Fla. − A pair of Flagler College alums, Andrew Pressentin (Estero, Fla./Miami Palmetto HS) and Patrick Lamb (Lake Wales, Fla./Western Carolina U.), finished in the top 10 of the 64th Florida Open Championship which concluded Sunday at the Innisbrook Resort & Golf Club (7,255 yards).

Presentin finished third, just four strokes back, with an even par 214 for the 54-hole tournament. He carded a 2-under 69 in the final round. Pressentin shot an even round 72 to open the tournament and then followed with a 73 in the second round.

Lamb finished in a three-way tie for ninth place with a 5-over 219. He shot a 2-under 70 in the first round followed by a 76 and a 73.

Current Flagler golfer, Chris Bray (Hilliard, Fla./Hilliard HS), also played in the tournament, but did not make the cut. He shot a two-round 160 and missed the cut by seven strokes.

The top 156 amateur and professional golfers in the state played 18 holes each on the Copperhead course and the Island course on July 16-17. After 36 holes, the field was cut to the low 60 and ties. The final 18 holes of the Championship were played on the Copperhead course on July 18. Before reaching the Championship, more than 1,000 participants attempted to qualify at one of 16 sites across the state setting a new tournament record for entries filed.

Started in 1942, The Florida Open Championship has produced past champions that include Willie Turnesa, Bob Murphy, Gary Koch, Bruce Fleisher, John Huston, Dudley Hart, and Bart Bryant. This was the second year the Florida State Golf Association conducted this great championship.

HARROGATE, Tenn. – Last Saturday (Oct. 15), Flagler College Director of Golf Santiago Cavanagh was honored by his alma mater, Lincoln Memorial University, by welcoming him in its Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2011 held at Tex Turner Arena. Cavanagh and five other Lincoln Memorial alums were so honored as par of its Homecoming Weekend festivities.
